Job Description for Job Exploration Training (JET) Program Staff
The summer JET program at Workshops Empowerment Inc. provides an opportunity for high school students with disabilities to experience work at one or more local businesses. Each JET staff person is responsible for the supervision of all students at one or more specific assigned locations. JET staff carry out daily work experience activities, ensure the safety and physical well-being of the students, record activities for each student in case notes, and work within the JET team to provide a high quality summer work experience for the participants.
This is a non-exempt temporary position averaging 23-25 hours per week. Hours may vary by location, but will typically be 8:15 am – 1:00 pm Monday – Friday. Pay rate is $18.00 per hour.
The JET program runs June 6 – July 1 and July 11 – 22. Due to conflicts with the Birmingham City Schools schedule, some sites/staff will operate for 5 weeks: June 13 – July 1 and July 11 – 22. Applicants must commit to working for the entire 5 or 6-week period for which they are hired.
Job Responsibilities
Provide Relevant Learning Opportunities and Supervise Program Participants
· Ensure all program participants are actively supervised as they work at their host businesses.
· Engage participants in a way that allows them to grow their own abilities.
· Work with Transition Program Manager to address any participant behavior concerns.
· Role model positive work habits to program participants
Act as liaison between WE Inc. and designated worksite
· Commit to understanding the expectations of the host business with regard to the tasks program participants will undertake, and communicate these expectations to program participants.
· Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for participants, communicating any concerns to the designated representative of the host business
· Troubleshoot any concerns raised by the host business and communicate about these issues to the Transition Program Manager
· Ensure that the physical environment at the host business is left in good order at the conclusion of each workday
Administrative Duties
· Follow policies and procedures of Workshops Empowerment Inc.
· Respect confidentiality of program participants.
· Keep accurate record of hours worked by each participant and maintain daily case notes about each participant.
· Communicate program concerns immediately to Transition Program Manager.
· Attend all pre-program trainings before the JET program begins.
· Complete any daily, weekly, or monthly paperwork as it ties into your assigned shift (master attendance, staff ratio sheet, etc.).
Required Qualifications:
· 21 years of age or older.
· High school degree required; college degree preferred
· Experience working with high school students with disabilities strongly preferred
· Strong organizational skills.
· Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
